Review Policy
Last updated: May 25, 2026
This Review Policy describes the rules that apply to reviews on GigScores. It is part of, and must be read together with, our Terms of Service.
What a review on GigScores is
A review on GigScores is a verified, proof-backed, first-hand account of a client’s experience hiring a freelancer. Reviews are not opinions written in a vacuum — they are statements supported by evidence and intended to form part of a permanent public record.
The verification process
Every review crosses seven gates before becoming public:
- X handle verified — the reviewer’s X account is confirmed to exist via the X API
- Required fields — handle, category, budget, written review (minimum 12 characters), and at least two proofs
- 5-dimension scoring — quality, communication, delivery, value, and would-hire-again ratings
- Proof upload — at least two pieces of verification (payment screenshots, invoices, contracts, signed deliverables, etc.). Proofs are stored privately; only the proof type is shown publicly
- Reviewer identity — the reviewer’s X handle is stored. The reviewer may choose to display it publicly or remain anonymous on the published review. Either way, identity is on file
- Pending and invisible — the review is held in a moderation queue and is not publicly visible
- Human moderation — every review is examined by a GigScores moderator before being approved and made public
For more detail, see the “How it works” section on the homepage.
What we accept
We accept reviews that are:
- First-hand and based on a real engagement
- Supported by authentic, unaltered proofs
- Specific about the work performed
- Honest, including critical reviews
Critical reviews are welcome. Constructive negative feedback is part of a healthy reputation system. What matters is honesty and evidence.
What we reject
We reject reviews that are:
- Fabricated or based on engagements that did not occur
- Submitted by competitors, friends, family, or other non-clients of the freelancer
- Supported by forged, altered, or recycled proofs
- Off-topic or unrelated to the freelancer’s work
- Hateful, harassing, defamatory, or doxxing
- Sexually explicit or otherwise inappropriate
- Spam, promotional, or self-serving
- Containing private information about third parties
- Submitted in violation of our Terms of Service
Rejected reviews are not made public and the reviewer is not notified individually. There is no appeal.
Anonymity
A reviewer may choose, at submission, whether their X handle is shown publicly on the review or whether the review appears as “Anonymous.” Either way, the reviewer’s identity is on file with GigScores for accountability purposes. An anonymous review is not an unaccountable review — it is simply one whose author has chosen privacy of public display.
Reviews are permanent
Once a review is approved and published, it is part of the permanent public record. We do not remove reviews on request from the freelancer, the reviewer, or any third party. This is a deliberate design choice — the value of GigScores depends on its permanence and reliability.
The only exception: proven proof fraud
The single circumstance under which GigScores may remove a published review is where credible evidence establishes that the proofs accompanying it were fabricated, doctored, or otherwise fraudulent. To request review on this basis:
- Submit a report at /report selecting the appropriate category
- Include specific evidence demonstrating the proofs are fraudulent
- Provide your X handle for follow-up
GigScores will examine the evidence and decide whether removal is warranted. Whether the evidence is credible, and whether removal is appropriate, remains in the sole discretion of GigScores. Removal is a possibility, never a guarantee. There is no appeal.
Editing and moderation by GigScores
GigScores may, at its sole discretion and at any time, edit, redact, hide, restore, or modify any review or any portion of a review (for example, to fix typos, redact private information, or update incorrect facts). This authority applies equally to approved and pending reviews.
Reporting a review
If you believe a review violates this Policy or our Terms, use the /report form. Include as much specificity as possible — the freelancer involved, the review you are reporting, and your reasoning. Reports are reviewed by GigScores.
